Dance Examinations

As qualified teaching members of Associated Board of Dance (ABD) we hold annual examination sessions for those students wishing to participate. 
​The Associated Board of Dance (ABD) offers graded and vocational dance exams that are accredited by GQAL (Graded Qualifications Alliance), a recognised awarding body in the UK.
With friendly examiners, the sessions are a lovely, positive experience for the children and it is lovely to see them be rewarded for their hard work. 
We offer graded examinations from Primary level upwards in Ballet, Tap and Modern Jazz.

Medal Tests

​ABD medal tests are fun, performance-based dance assessments offered by the Associated Board of Dance (ABD). Unlike formal graded exams, medal tests focus on showcasing routines in front of an examiner, often in a more relaxed setting than graded exams. Medal Tests can be taken in all subjects.

Shows

We hold a full scale production every two years at The Crescent Theatre, in Birmingham City Centre. Shows run across an entire weekend and include every member of our school (our younger dancers perform on one day only). Each child performs a routine for every subject they take and we are proud to be able to give them (and their parents!) the chance to experience a fully operational professional theatre. 

Exam Results

As a school we have a 100% examination Pass rate.
Results for our most recent exam session in Spring 2025 were: 
17% Merit
83% Distinction
​Plus Five Platinum Awards for students achieving over 90% in their marks

Parent Review

Starsteps is a great dance school for young children. Miss Kate and Miss Lucy are patient with the children and provide them with the opportunity to fall in love with dance, while learning amazing skills and
developing a confidence that they can carry through into other areas of their lives.
